Inkjet cartridges are basically liquid ink that is sprayed on the paper to produce prints. The inkjet printers are a great option for a home printer. Inkjet printers require no heating elements (fuser) which means it uses less energy. Being a liquid, inkjets only last two years unopened and six months opened.

You should see an expiration date when you purchase your inkjet cartridges. Toner cartridges use powdered ink that uses a heating element in the printer to fuse the powdered toner on the page. Toner cartridges last quite a bit longer than inkjet cartridges. I’ve used cartridges that were on the shelf for over ten years that worked great.
